General Characteristics
The skunk's size from head to body is 8 to 19 inches, the tail is 5 to 15 inches. An adult skunk's size from head to body is 20 to 30 inches, the tail is 7 to 15 inches.
An adult skunk weighs 6-14 pounds. The males are larger than the females. An average skunk is about the same size as a large house cat.
The striped skunk is primarily black with white stripes. They are small mammals with a bushy tail, beady eyes, and a pointed black ose. They have long, black hair with a thin white stripe on the forehead. A white stripe on the back of the head splits at the shoulders into two white stripes that extend along the back.
